When I began developing my mission statement for Revenir Services, I was also dream weaving about an image, a piece of artistic work that would come to symbolize me as an entrepreneur and compliment my written objectives. The creative process works in mysterious ways! I had writers block for months, trying to write simple sentences about why I chose to name my business this way and what my mission statement was. It felt impossible to concisely explain the values and motives that have brought me to this work, and the ways I hope to support my clients. I could barely even do more than brainstorm a few words in columns in my journal – it felt like a dead end.
I decided to shift my focus to the art. I knew there had to firm roots in nature, while also grounding in the magic of humanness. I had been following Stepha Lawson’s art for a long while on social media, admiring her birth work art from her page The Language of Birth, which so beautifully weaved bodies, babies and flowers. It was inspiring! I started to form ideas about how I wanted my art and my logo to look. When I visited her website I realized she is also a logo designer and I knew I had to work with her to bring my vision to life.
Immediately upon communicating with her, and sharing a bit about my vision, business, and personal life, I felt she understood what I was looking for. I spoke with her about my values as a birth worker, yoga teacher, and reiki practitioner as well as my connection to nature and spirituality. She recognized right away that my style and rhythm speak to my sense of simplistic, natural, intuitive relationship with life, and of death, and vital cycles of being.
We worked together over several weeks to develop the image. I went from wanting a lush floral bed of plants under open hands, to deciding on green plants, to then firmly landing on ferns only. I have always felt a particular affinity to ferns, always inspiring wonder when I stumble across them in the woods, somehow making me feel the magical curiosity of a child and the wisdom of an old spirit simultaneously.
The ferns present:
Sensitive Fern (Onoclea sensibilis)
Maidenhair Fern (Adiantum pedatum)
Maidenhair Spleenwort (Asplenium trichomanes)
Green Spleenwort (Asplenium viride)
Prickly Rasp Fern (Doodia aspera)
Tree fern (Cyathea erinacea)
Once I began communicating with Stepha about the development of the logo, and sharing with her in an artistic sense what I wanted to capture, the rest began to flow more easily. The excitement of seeing my logo come to life so perfectly under Stepha’s attention and care inspired me to begin my own creative process. I was able to brainstorm ideas for my mission statement, and start putting together the rough scraps of planning my website development.
I am profoundly grateful to Stepha for bringing this vision to life, and for making me feel seen and heard in my mission. Her bearing witness, reflecting the themes and values she recognized in my words back to me, and manifesting this image - were the catalyst for me to begin my own creative process in birthing this business.
It is my sincerest hope that this art brings all my clients and readers a sense of curiosity and inspiration!
